The 52nd NY Monument at Gettysburg

     This is the monument to the 52nd New York at Gettysburg.  It is located along Sickles Ave. in a grove west of the Wheatfield.

     The monument is made of Concord granite and bronze.  The base measures 6 feet, 6 inches by 5 feet, 4 inches, and the monument is 11 feet in height.  The front is inscribed with:

52nd NY Infantry
3rd Brig. 1st Div. 2nd Corps.
July 2nd 1863, 6 to 7 PM

     At the top of the monument is the state seal of New York.  In the middle is a pack with a blanket strapped to its top, and a canteen hanging below.  Behind the pack is two crossed rifles, with the Second Corps insignia, a trefoil, above the pack. 
     The back is inscribed as follows:

Killed 2, wounded 26,
Missing 10;
Total Loss 38.
